The purpose of the Institutions Committee comes from that basic AA principle – we have to give it away to keep it. In order to stay sober, AA members go to institutions to carry the message.
Thus, the purpose of the Institutions Committee is to make possible this crucial meeting between the institutionalized alcoholic and the AA member. To do this, the Committee: schedules the AA groups to go to the institution, coordinates with the institution for the meetings and for orientation, supplies the institution with literature, and finds sponsors for some of the institutions.
